Frankenstein - More Than Just Rebirth and Madness

When you think of the Frankenstein movies, names like Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Mary Shelley and James Whale come to mind. But have you ever heard of Kenneth Strickfaden? Long entombed in the annals of horror movie fame, Strickfaden is the man whose electrical designs made Frankenstein the movie that it is. He was called "Dr. Frankenstein's Electrician" and was directly responsible for all of the electrical effects used in the monster creation scene. He also created all the electrical effects for the later Frankenstein sequels. He was even a stunt double for Boris Karloff, who was deathly afraid of electricity.

Strickfaden was meticulous about his special effects, concocting various exotic laboratory equipment, as well as securing the use of a Tesla Coil built by the legendary scientist Nikola Tesla himself. Rest assured, all the electricity in the film was real, and the equipment he used to produce them became known, in fandom, as "Strickfadens".

Frankenstein

He was responsible for all those breathtaking electrical devices Frankenstein and Fritz, in various movies, clutched, clung to, and recoiled from. Strickfaden also coordinated the memorable lightening bolts that shot across the lab. Without the aid of Tesla's coil, those fantastic discharges would be impossible to create.

Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, generally known as Frankenstein, is a novel written by Mary Shelley. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18 and the novel was published when she was 20. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the second edition, published in 1831. The title of the novel refers to a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, who learns how to create life and creates a being in the likeness of man, but larger than average and more powerful. In popular culture, people have tended incorrectly to refer to the monster as "Frankenstein". Frankenstein is infused with some elements of the Gothic novel and the Romantic movement. It was also a warning against the expansion of modern man in the Industrial Revolution, alluded to in the novel's subtitle, The Modern Prometheus. The story has had an influence across literature and popular culture and spawned a complete genre of horror stories and films.

It should be noted that Tesla coils are a resonant transformer created by Serbian-American scientist Nikola Tesla around 1891. These coils produce very high voltage, low current and high frequency alternating current electricity. The electrical discharges produced those lighting-like plasma filaments that were so extensively used in the film. Believe it or not during the early 1900s Tesla coils were used to apply high frequency current directly to the body in what was then considered therapy!

Kenneth Strickfaden was considered an innovative special effects genius, especially in the 1930s and 1940s. He worked on movies from Frankenstein to The Wizard of Oz to The Mask of Fu Man Chu. In his later years, he worked on various television series, including The Munsters. With more than 100 motion pictures to his credit, he still managed to give 1500 traveling science demonstrations and lectures across the U.S. and Canada. He remains one of the nearly forgotten heroes of early film and television, where the lightening bolts were real, the laboratory equipment dangerous, and stuntmen walked into electrical storms.

Management by Objective Is Like Frankenstein: Good Intentions That Turn Into a Monster

Frankenstein started out with good intentions. The Dr. lost his brother to a tragic accident and vowed to bring him back to life. With all the best of intentions to create life, his work led to the creation of a monster. Management by Objective (MBO) is much like a Frankenstein monster. I am sure Peter Drucker had the best of intentions when he created the idea of MBO but it hasn't turned out that way.

MBO is a tool to align all actions in an organization around a set of objectives by first identifying the objectives, giving employees objectives consistent with those of the organization, Monitor progress, evaluate the employees and the performance (usually through performance appraisals), rewarding the achievers, punishing the slackers, and then revising the organization objectives again.

Frankenstein

MBO is an outgrowth of a certain set of assumptions and these include:

Our Boys Frankenstein Halloween Costume comes with purple jacket with black inset shirt, black pants with attached thick black shoe covers, and even a green headpiece with attached black hair! You'll stand out among the rest as an iconic scary figure so order this costume today!

• Employees won't put in extra effort unless they are constantly reminded, rewarded, and threatened to work on what is most important. The pay-for-performance portion of MBO is a critical element for this.

• Improving the performance of individuals will improve the performance of the organization.

• Measuring results and holding people accountable to those results will create improvement

The unintended consequences of MBO (the monster) have just recently been confirmed thanks to the "No Child Left Behind" legislation passed by President Bush in his first term. A recent series of articles by USA TODAY uncovered frequent cheating by teachers and principals. This is not the first time cheating has appeared since No Child Left Behind was implemented. A study by the Wall Street Journal uncovered purposeful tampering of the Regents exams in New York. I think they should re-name the program: No "Cheating" Left Behind: MBO Fails Again!

Holding people accountable to results where they can't control (or even influence) all the factors necessary for success will cause either manipulated numbers or cheating. The environment created by pay-for-performance and MBO encourages manipulation because of the pressure for results. Various studies show that students (when asked if they cheat) report as many as 80% admitting to some kind of cheating. The reports by USA Today and the Wall Street Journal confirm the pressure to achieve as one of the root causes.

Some of you may be thinking that these are isolated instances. If so, then why did Bausch and Lomb executives forge sales data and hide inventory to meet stretch goals? Why did Auto repair managers in Sears bilk customers with unnecessary repairs to meet monthly bonuses? Why did Jiffy Lube managers sell unnecessary parts to customers to meet weekly goals? Why did Enron executives manipulate projects? I could go on.

Pressure to perform damages employee engagement. It robs employees of pride and encourages breaks in rules to achieve the results. It puts results in front of ethics.

With the best of intentions your senior leaders may be creating a monster with MBO, stretch goals, pay-for-performance, and performance appraisals. This monster will damage employee engagement and stunt performance improvement.

These are the exact opposite of the original desired outcomes. It is time to eliminate the growth of MBO and to reverse its course before it consumes more employee engagement and valuable resources. We must especially protect the engagement of employees and must especially protect our children. We must kill this monster now.

Frankenstein Halloween Costumes - Choose a Classic Scary Costume

A Frankenstein Halloween costume is a classic costume for Halloween that never goes out of style. Frankenstein is the most well known and identifiable classic science fiction character that is as scary and frightening today as it was 50 years ago.

Frankenstein is the monster in the famous Mary Shelley novel. The monster elicits a whole range of feelings from horror, fear and disgust to compassion, curiosity and kindness.

Frankenstein

People are probably more familiar with the Frankenstein monster from the timeless Hollywood films than from the book. The Frankenstein monster is the huge creature with the green head, flat skull and bolts in the neck. The Frankenstein costume is an ill fitting t-shirt and jacket with ragged pants and heavy black boots.

Robert De Niro, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hulce, Helena Bonham Carter, Aidan Quinn, Ian Holm and John Cleese star in Branagh's acclaimed adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. True to the original, here is the story of a young doctor whose obsession with death leads him to create a life. But his "creature" crafted from the bodies of convicts and the brain of a brilliant scientist, is a hideous mockery of humanity. And when the creature realizes he will never be accepted by men, he seeks revenge on Dr. Frankenstein and his family. An inspired adaptation that's emotionally complex and truly terrifying.

If you do not want to wear a mask, you can use a Halloween make up kit to construct a really scary monster. Color your face green. Create the suture line on the forehead and cheek. Color in the dark black circles around the eyes.

The costume comes alive when you add the well known clumsy unsteady gait with the arms held out straight in front. Add some grunting and you will have captured the essence of the Frankenstein monster.

There is also the comical side of the Frankenstein monster personified by Herman Munster in the classic 1960s TV show, The Munsters. The overall look is the same as Frankenstein but with a dose of humor instead of terror.

If you are going to a Halloween party or just out to Trick or Treat with some friends, consider going as the classic trio: Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolfman. Each is a quintessential frightening monster in their own right but together, with the right attitude, they will scare and delight all of your friends.

Scientists have a body from scratch in an experiment that raises questions about the constructed nature of life. The research points out Mary Shelley's Frankenstein are frightened many religious leaders, politicians and philosophers. the world's first synthetic organism is a virus of polio in the small workshop built artificially. But it is a first step towards more complex forms of life. Within a century, some scientists believe that you can "rebuild" speciesthat have become extinct or create entirely new organisms. The researchers, who said he created the version of the polio virus, wanted to demonstrate how easy it would be if the terrorists to make deadly biological weapons. A team from the University of New York at Stony Brook assembled the virus and then injected into mice. The animals were just as they have been through a polio virus was present in nature, and then killed. "The reason we did was to show that you can do and who is now aReality, "said Dr. Eckard Wimmer, head of the research team reported their findings today in the journal Science. This approach has been discussed, but not take seriously the people." The polio virus is small in terms of genetics, but a. artificial simulation took several years, scientists have followed a genetic "recipe" for polio downloaded from the Internet and the use of genetic material - to use a mail order supplier as building blocks, made a series of small genetic - DNA....

Boris Karloff stars as the screen's most memorable monster in what many consider to be the greatest horror film ever made. Dr. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) dares to tamper with life and death by creating a human monster (Karloff) out of lifeless body parts. It's director James Whale's adaptation of the Mary Shelley novel blended with Karloff's compassionate portrayal of a creature groping for identity that makes Frankenstein a masterpiece not only of the genre, but for all time.

Frankenstein Costumes

There are so many freaky costume choices in deciding what to wear on a Halloween party. In fact, characters may be inspired by many different mystical worlds such as those from fairy tales, dreamland, underworld, and many other setting which are products of people's creative minds.

However, there is no way to beat certain classical science fiction horrifying characters. The Frankenstein character is one belonging to the classical sci-fi genre. It was made more popular on film from a best-selling novel of Mary Shelley. The movie just like that of the novel was a big hit years ago. And, Frankenstein costumes inspired by prominent film and novel, will surely click.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein is a strange creature, who happens to be a product of a failed scientific experiment. The story is intriguing for it touches sensitive issues about life particularly immortality. This kind of plot gives a freaky feel on the background of the character. True indeed, Frankenstein has this inherent terrifying aura. And, the frightening aura of a character can be much scarier than plain horrible looks.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz raises the stakes—and the suspense—taking his Frankenstein saga to a dynamic new level with the riveting story of a small town under siege, where good and evil, destruction and creation, converge as the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

FRANKENSTEIN: LOST SOULS

The war against humanity has begun. In the dead hours of the night, a stranger enters the home of the mayor of Rainbow Falls, Montana. The stranger is in the vanguard of a wave of intruders who will invade other homes . . . offices . . . every local institution, assuming the identities and the lives of those they have been engineered to replace. Before the sun rises, the town will be under full assault, the opening objective in the new Victor Frankenstein’s trajectory of ultimate destruction. Deucalion—Victor’s first, haunted creation—saw his maker die in New Orleans two years earlier. Yet an unshakable intuition tells him that Victor lives—and is at work again. Within hours Deucalion will come together with his old allies, detectives Carson O’Connor and Michael Maddison, Victor’s engineered wife, Erika Five, and her companion Jocko to confront new peril. Others will gather around them. But this time Victor has a mysterious, powerful new backer, and he and his army are more formidable, their means and intentions infinitely more deadly, than ever before.

Moreover, Frankenstein's strange appearance adds up to the petrifying horror experience. He looks worse than a zombie, with the body stitches; nut and bolt right through his head, and the disproportion body appearance. Adding up to the gruesome look, is the filthy and rugged clothes he is in. The entire appearance of Frankenstein is so odd that it is unimaginable to exist in real life. See, Frankenstein costumes can never be freakier?

Frankenstein does not just look creepy, his actions and moves can be very spine-chilling. His disproportion body due to stitches makes unnatural movements. His size is close to an ogre, with a giant's height. He will not fit in a villagers hut with his size. He rarely makes quick and big movements because of his overall strange appearance. Also, Frankenstein creates eerie sounds because he can hardly speak. He may utter some words but in a choppy manner making him sound scary. Frankenstein really comes in a package of terror. Try in those Frankenstein costumes, and have fun seeing people's frightened expressions!

In contrast to his terrifying looks, aura, and actions, Frankenstein has an innocent heart. In the classic story, he even helped a villager's family without the latter knowing. He even defended an old man from the rage of a cruel debt collector. It was just unfortunate in the end, that he gets the blame for the mishaps in that family. It is really a fact that sometimes, characters with inherent might and strength could end up as a victim.

Frankenstein is beyond doubt interesting. Do you have the heart to fit in his shoes? People can be very afraid of this character, and these same people can be very horrifying with their prejudices. Be in Frankenstein costumes and spread the fear to give him that vengeance!

How to Make a Frankenstein Head

It is never too early to start planing for Halloween, especially if you are planning a big party. What better way to impress your guests but with your own handmade head of Frankenstein center piece. This is a quick and simple way to make your own Halloween decoration. My husband and I enjoyed this project and so did our niece and nephew, it was like a science experiment for them. I first thought of it when my husband was about to through out an old latex mask he had bought along time ago. Well I noticed the mask looked similar to Frankenstein face and thought I could put it to good use making a Halloween decoration with it. Note this is a project for outside. Here are a few easy steps on how to make your own.

First you will want to get your work area prepared so the process goes smoothly. Hang the mask upside down where it will be nice and secure and ready for when you pour the plaster in. Make sure you have an old bucket and a stirring stick for mixing. Now you are ready to began. Mix about 8Ib's of plaster (take into consideration the mold you are using), powder paint and water altogether. Remember to work fast because the plaster dry's quickly. Once everything is mixed well began pouring the colored plaster into the latex mold. It will take a minimum of a half hour to dry, this of course will depend on the temperature outside.

Frankenstein

When your mold is completely dry you can then remove the latex mask, you will need to wet and sand the edge of the neck to remove ruff edges. Lastly you can either leave it as is for a more simple look and then just spry the glaze on right away or you can use some black and green paint to fill in the facial details. To help with the details just find a picture online of Frankenstein for reference. I found this to be very helpful. After the paint is dry you can then spry your head with a clearcote of Hi-Shine glaze, giving it a more glossy look then allow some time to dry.
